I love this post! Could you have heard about The Pivot Year from Renee at ItsBookTalk? I know I've seen her mention it a few times 😊

Thank you so much, Lauren! Yes, it was Renee - so glad you helped me figure that out :-)

I hope you enjoy the concert! My sister and once drove down to Duke and back from our hometown of SC because The Hush Sound was playing that night. I keep looking at Taylor Swift tickets and giveaways in the off chance they won’t be $2k each but it certainly doesn’t seem like that particular concert is happening at this point! I compromised by buying my kids official store merch. And I am taking this post as a sign I should go to a matinee on a work day! I work from home and the theater is literally 2 minutes from my house.

I was just talking about this with Dean yesterday! It’s so easy as adults to get into a routine. We are currently in a season where it feels like a majority of our time is spent working and we were talking about how to add more fun in to our lives this fall. I’m going to check out this book, her comment about planning intrigued me as someone who is such a planner!

I hope you find some helpful tidbits in the book, Michelle!! I too get tunnel vision regarding work and routine during the week and am being intentional about allowing a bit more flexibility and fun in via tiny things like music playing through the house in the mornings (vs an audiobook in my AirPods), stopping at a fun store on my way home from work vs always sprinting home, wearing my strawberry print shoes vs. the grey ones, laughing out loud at absurdities rather than grumbling, etc

I love the octopus tank!!! This is so very micro, but I needed stamps and ordered a sheet of sugar skull stamps from the post office. 🥰

I just requested my library to purchase Making Things and said you were my inspiration! I’m so in awe of you and your commitment to joy. I have elementary school kids, and am a different phase of life than you, but your commitment to joy reminds me that I don’t need to wait until my kids are older to be joyful and or creative!

Also I lost my garmin watch, and realized that while I do use it for running, I mainly used it to obsessively track my steps instead of you know, LIVING my life.

What a happy accident, Shawna! I definitely understand the utility for running, as I really did love my trackers for that purpose, but I bet the release from obsession about steps has been a delight.

You definitely don’t have to wait, Shawna! I remember those years all too well and have recently been reflecting on the fact that at the time, I couldn’t even begin to see the future and have any perspective about the stage I was in. Everything seems a bit more urgent as they get older and closer to leaving. One small thing that I’m doing now is playing music in the house via speaker (rather than having an audiobook on in my Airpods) during our frantic getting ready time in the morning to help me and the 7th grader have a more shared experience and build a more communal music library. That’s an example of something small you can do even with younger kids!

This makes me SO happy! (And it’s also so weird to think that my voice was in your ears for like eight hours, but am trying not to dwell on that.) Here’s to more playful rebellion!

I think we can all use some playful rebellion! And I've been sharing about The Pivot Year this summer so maybe me:) I also read 1 passage a day and include the date and underline anything that resonates
