Hello readers! It’s time for another monthly release newsletter ~ yay! Get out your reading journal, Goodreads, library catalog, etc and prepare to vastly expand your TBR with these titles releasing in September 2024. Remember that the Saturday edition of this publication is always available for all readers ~ I am so happy you have welcomed me into your inbox ♡
Here we are ~ the official last weekend of summer! Did you read what you wanted to? Do all the summer things you wanted to do?
In answer to those questions, I can honestly say YES to both of them. Case in point, last Sunday I was able to check the last item off my summer “making” bucket list!
Also, in auditing my life-well-lived activity list recently, I realized that I hadn’t been out on the lake nearly enough this summer (maybe because I wasn’t home for much of it!), so I remedied that by taking a friend out paddleboarding last Saturday. The older I get, the more I realize that I have (relative) agency over what activities fill my non-working time, and if there’s something I want to do more of, I need to *make* the time, not just expect it to fit on its own. I’m so glad I fit the lake time in!
In other life-well-lived news, I am very very very happy with the number of naps I fit in this season. I napped almost every single day I was home this summer, and the only activity that replaced napping when I wasn’t traveling was ……. reading by the pool. Ha!
Since having my first baby back in 2005, I thoroughly embraced the “nap when the baby naps” philosophy and have been napping every possible afternoon since then. Once the kids grew out of naps, they grew into afternoon movie / rest time and then eventually into “do whatever you want, mom’s taking a nap” time. During the school year, I prioritize Saturday afternoon naps ~ as in, I literally schedule my days around them and my family knows that I will be doing so. Napping, or even just reading in bed in the afternoon, feels decadent and indulgent and solely for ME.
Napping: 10/10, highly recommend.
Would you like even more chatty musings on midlife, even more book recommendations, and exclusive downloads and book collections delivered right to your inbox each week? These are all benefits of a paid subscription to this newsletter ~ please do consider becoming a supporter!
September 2024 Releases on My Radar
Yet again, in addition to highlighting below the September releases that I have already read and enjoyed, I also created a collection on Bookshop.org1 of all of the releases that I have on my radar for this month. Please head on over to take a look if you want a visual feast of all of the bountiful goodness that September 2024 shall bring book lovers!
There are almost 50 books on the list ~ really something for everyone! I’m such a visual shopper when it comes to books and I wanted to provide you with an easy (pretty) way to see all the covers AND be able to click through for descriptions and release dates. Enjoy!
Please note that this collection is not an inclusive list of all September 2024 releases ~ it just includes the titles that I have already read or that I actually want to read and will seek copies of in the future. Also, I did NOT include any of the Christmas-themed books releasing this month that I am excited about ~ those will be shared in a future exclusive collection for paid supporters.
My September 2024 Release Recommendations
There are a LOT of September releases that I’m super excited about, but given that I was reading these at the beginning and middle of August, I wasn’t ready to fully shift my seasonal reading mindset to more fall-like titles. For that reason, I just grabbed what seemed interesting in the moment and knew that I would get to the others when they felt right! I read a few of these while traveling and will forever associate them with hotel rooms in South Dakota and Nebraska and my mom’s guest room ☺
Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty ~ my new favorite book by this author! I was riveted the entire time and so appreciated the “how would I live if I knew I was dying” contemplation | read my full review | September 10
Where They Last Saw Her by Marcie R. Rendon ~ I adore Rendon’s Cash Blackbear series, and this modern day standalone about missing and murdered Indigenous women did not disappoint. | read my full review | September 3
Colored Television by Danzy Senna ~ I really appreciated the motherhood and marriage elements of this story, as well as the conversation about race, but if you love the television industry you’ll love it even more. | read my full review | September 3
The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston ~ I’m a major fan of books about people in old age who find community and hope, and this one falls fully into that category. Such a heartwarming and uplifting story. | read my full review | September 10
Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb ~ if you were a major Dawson’s Creek fangirl back in the day, this magical romance is for you. If you don’t know who Dawson and Pacey are, this one may be a bit too niche. Personally, I was glued to this series in late high school and college, so this was such a sweet and nostalgic story for me. | read my full review | September 3
→ Remember that if you are not in a position to purchase any of these books, you can request that your public library purchase them! Often the person who requests the purchase gets to be the first to read when they arrive ☺
Have you read any of these books? Have any of them on your TBR? Let me know!
Don’t forget ~ all of these great August reads are available now!
That’s all for this week ~ thanks for reading!
I love to hear from readers, so please do reach out to me with questions or feedback at mindfullibrarian@substack.com . If we aren’t already connected on Goodreads, I would love to see you there as well!
If you purchase a book from my Bookshop.org collection, I will earn a tiny commission. I shall not become rich from you shopping from my collection, but I merely used the platform to create an easy way for you to see and learn about all the titles in one visually appealing place that supports independent bookstores ☺
